UK broadcaster Gyles Brandreth has rushed to the defence of Victoria Beckham after her husband David Beckham shared that for the last 25 years she’s only eaten grilled fish and vegetables for dinner.
The revelation by David was met with shock from commentators who were “horrified” and “sad” to hear the news, writing that “wonderful varied delicious food is one of the joys in life”.

The 73-year-old broadcaster recalled the one time he had dinner with Victoria and remembers how she “disciplined herself”.
Gyles added that the former Spice Girl does “poke [the food] around her plate,” and also mixes up what kind of fish and vegetables she eats.
The broadcaster said in a daytime TV interview with ITV: “I have sat at a table with [Victoria and David] and there he is the steak and fries and all the rest of it, tucking in and there she is, not just with fish and steamed veg, it’s a tiny bit of fish and steamed vegetables, sort of poking them around the plate.
“She is not wolfing them down, she has just disciplined herself,” he went on.
“And the fish does vary from meal to meal, it’s not always the same fish and the steamed vegetables vary from meal to meal.
“I have witnessed it and I have seen how wonderful she looks and how healthy she is,” Gyles assured.
This comes after David Beckham shared Victoria’s eating habits with the River Cafe Table 4.
Speaking first about his own relationship with food, David shared he “gets quite emotional about food and wine. When [he’s] eating something great [he] wants everyone to try it”.
The father of four then turned his attention to Victoria, telling the podcast host, “Unfortunately I’m married to someone that has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years.
“Since I met her she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables, she will very rarely deviate from that,” he said.
David looked back fondly on one particular evening when his wife ate something off his plate, back when she was pregnant with their youngest child Harper, now 10 years old.
“The only time she’s probably ever shared something that’s been on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper and it was the most amazing thing.
“It was one of my favourite evenings. I can’t remember what it was but I know she’s not eaten it since,” David said.
Victoria has previously admitted that she won’t eat any food cooked in oil, butter, or sauces, and she doesn’t eat red meat or dairy.
The former Spice Girls singer also shared that her comfort food is a piece of wholegrain toast with salt on it and on her birthday she celebrates with a cake made from fruit.
People across social media were shocked to hear the revelation regarding Victoria’s diet, sharing their thoughts on Twitter.
“No wonder @victoriabeckham always looks so glum. Supposedly she has had grilled fish & steamed vegetables for her dinner almost every day for 25years! Are you OK Missus? I’m a fine one to talk, but you,” one tweet read.
“Maybe she could spice things up a bit by steaming her fish and grilling her veg????” said a second.
“Horrified and sad to hear that Victoria Beckham only ever eats steamed fish and vegetables! Wonderful varied delicious food is one of the joys in life. And as David CAN cook – she is missing out so much!” another added.
David also told the podcast that when he has the house to himself he loves cooking whatever he fancies.
“Pretty recently I was in isolation for five days because I’d just been to Italy so I came back and on one of the last days Victoria’s parents had a party and I couldn’t actually go to it,” the former Manchester United player said.
“So everyone was out of the house and I secretly loved it.
“I literally had two most amazing cuts of meat. One was a T-bone and I had some English wagyu.
“I poured one glass of the most amazing red wine that I treated myself to because I was on my own looking forward to watching the football in the afternoon on my own. So I set the barbecue up,” David told the podcast host.
David showed off his love of cooking on his Instagram on Tuesday, sharing a video of himself preparing a meal in Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen.
He captioned the clip: “Learnt a new dish to celebrate Lunar New Year… Sweet and sour Mandarin Fish.
“Must say I’m quite proud of how it turned out. Thanks for letting me use your kitchen @gordongram #LunarNewYear,” David wrote.
He prepared fish to celebrate the Lunar New Year and opened the video by saying: “xīn nián kuài lè,” in Mandarin translated to “Happy Lunar New Year”.
After preparing both the fish and sauce, he took a bite, then spoke again in Mandarin, wishing viewers “prosperity every year. Forge ahead with the vigour and vitality of the tiger,” David encouraged.
